Session Information
Description: Panelists address how using a local resource can transform our approach to humanities education and encourage a practice of civic engagement. Cleveland’s Anisfield-Wolf Book Award, “the only juried prize in the nation for books that confront racism and celebrate diversity,” is rooted in the idea that literature is a vehicle for social justice. We explore Gikandi’s question “Does literature still have the capacity to transform the public sphere?”
