776. When the Canon Is Not Enough

Session Information

Description: Scholars of colonial Latin America work with archival documents in similar ways that historians do, but our graduate programs also employ reading lists of canonical texts. What is the relation of the canonical texts that we teach and research agendas focusing on archival nonliterary materials? What are the points of convergence and difference in how literary scholars and historians approach primary sources?
