Description: Panelists discuss Jeffrey Stewart's The New Negro: The Life of Alain Locke (2018) and consider emergent work on Locke as literary and art critic, philosopher, and theorist of culture and politics, presenting a rethinking of his contribution to the rise of “New Negro” discourses in the 1920s as well as an exploration of neglected aspects and periods of his critical output.
