Description: This working group expands Judith Roof’s notion that “to gender is to signal, mask, obscure, suggest, mislead, misrecognize” in order to consider who or what is Italian American and Italian Canadian. More specifically, we situate Italian American/Canadian literature within the contemporary and intersectional debates concerning ethnic identity. This project links past scholarship to theoretical underpinnings with new hermeneutical literary approaches.
